THE HISTORY
1994
Vulcan was founded with the commercial release of the critically acclaimed
Valhalla & The Lord of Infinity, the first ever speech adventure for the Amiga platform.
Achieving UK retailers best buy awards and becoming the most controversial release of its time,
this one title established Vulcan as a mainstream software developer and
publishing company that went on to create 15 award winning games over five years for
the Amiga platform.
At the height of Vulcan's Amiga activity they comprised of over
100 individuals in 14 development teams, developing, publishing and distributing their games
to retail outlets around the world and direct to the end user via mail order
1995 and 1996
For the next two years, Vulcan developed an published Amiga floppy games with the release of
Hilsea Lido
the seaside simulator, the simplistically complex puzzle games
Timekeepers
and
TimeKeepers II,
the second and third installments of their classic speech adventure
Valhalla Before The War
and
Valhalla & The Fortress of Eve,
the most realistic 3D Amiga flight simulator ever designed
JetPilot,
the strategic war game from Mindscape
Tiny Troops
soon followed by AGA specific games such as
Bograts
and
Burnout
1997 and 1998
With an established catalogue and a global distribution network in place, Vulcan
took the pioneering role of pushing Amiga development onto the CD format.
Now catering for graphics cards and utilizing full digital speech, 3D rendering and
multi language localization, they founded the MegaSeries Amiga CD collection with the
multiplayer beat-em-up
The Strangers,
the space age adventure
Uropa2,
the mythological adventure
The Final Odyssey
the stunning FPS 3D shooter
Genetic Species,
and finally the compilation CD
Vulcanology.
All 15 of Vulcan's Amiga games received review scores over 90% with
Genetic Species
scooping 22 awards from press around the world, heralded as the fastest FPS 3D
shooter the Amiga had ever seen, outselling rival title Amiga Quake
1999 and 2000
Due to economic changes and the decline of the commercial Amiga market, in January 1999 Vulcan
made the decision to switch development emphasis to the PC platform. With a massive
refinement of its operating procedures Vulcan abandoned it's previous role as an
Amiga publishing company and focused purely on the development of
PC software.
For the next two years Vulcan absorbed itself in a research and development phase and
concentrated all resources and energy into developing
Mother3D
their advanced 3D PC game creation tools
2001
With the continuing development of
Mother3D,
Vulcan expanded it's development activities to include internet technology with the release of the
Vulcan Uploader
a free and alternative FTP tool. Soon followed by the
Vulcan Ebayer
application, that allows businesses to auction their goods through Ebay and have
automatically created websites.
Incorporating synthetic speech technology and their Mother3D technology,
Vulcan released the
3dVoiceNews
application that allows clients to publish news articles that are spoken by a 3D representative. Soon followed by the
Vulcan Portal,
an internet based community application that allows its users to appear as 3D personas that synthetically speak typed text, have the ability to send and receive 3dVoiceMail, collect 3dVoiceNews, communicate online in real-time within 3dVoiceChat, the ability to promote WebPageLinks and stream MP3's
2002
With the continuing development of
Mother3D,
throughout 2002 Vulcan converted all 12 episodes of the
Valhalla Classics
speech adventure to the PC platform and made them available via
digital distribution through their
Vulcan Portal
application
2003
In early 2003 Vulcan converted all 8 worlds of
Timekeepers
to the PC platform and made them available via
digital distribution through their
Vulcan Portal
application. With
Mother3D
now at a highly evolved state, Vulcan initiated development of
Valhalla & The Curse Of Infinity,
which will be the first installment of an enthralling
episodic 3D speech adventure for the PC along with
Hybrid
a sci-fi based FPS 3D shooter
2004
In January 2004, to celebrate Vulcan's 10th anniversary, all 12 episodes of the
Valhalla Classics
speech adventure are re-launched as downloadable 'stand alone' games for the PC with revamped graphics and a complete rerecording of actor digital speech. This process was repeated in June with all 8 worlds of
Timekeepers
